Vehicle: Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Year: 1996 Engine: Magnum 5.2 (318 cid) V8 producing 158 kw (215 hp) and 300 lb-ft (410 Nm) of torque Muffler: Flowmaster Super 44 2.5″, default cat Transmission: 44RE 4-Speed Automatic 0-60 mph (0-100 kmh) Time: usually 8-9 seconds I just had a real big wish this evening to try capturing video and muffler sound through the rear hatch window while driving around. The results were not perfect but still you get the idea. I drove first time with the rear window open and to my ear it was incredibly loud. The rear side of the ZJ is very well isolated and I have some extra isolution applied to the hatch by the previous owner, therefore when I normally drive around it’s not that much rumble inside. I couldn’t speed on those roads so I just tried some acceleration, the max. RPM in this video is probably around 3800-3900 (red line is at 5000). I was having a lot of pain with the rear window cylinders not keeping it up (must replace them…) so I had to make a temporary stopper and it kept falling down, hence so many stops along the little cruise.

During the New York International Auto Show, one of the coolest concepts was the Jeep Trailhawk. Very aggressive and menacing, this vehicle was impressive and it’s a car I’d love to own. Alas, it’s only a concept and won’t be in a showroom anytime soon. But, according to Jeep designer Ralph Gilles, cues from the concept will be seen on future Jeep vehicles.
